Girls Track Takes Fourth at Championship Meet

Next up is SCC Championship Meet on Tuesday.

Competing in driving rain on a raw, cold afternoon, the Amity girls track and field team placed fourth in last Wednesday’s Southern Connecticut Conference East Sectional Championship Meet at Sim Field in Woodbridge. Hillhouse won the meet, while Amity placed fourth with 79 points.

Kaitlin Collins  (3rd in the 100 meter high hurdles—17.78 seconds), LeeAnn Beedle (4th in the 1600—5:26.90), Maryssa Kozek (8th in the 800—2:30.50), and Alexa Eldracher (2nd in the triple jump—35-feet 10 ½-inches) earned All-Housatonic Division recognition  as did the Lady Spartans’ 4x400 relay (Cynthia Greenberg, Rachel DePalma, Maggie Jodon, and Rebecca Race—4:14.61.)

Race also combined with Alyssa Doolan, Kozek, and Beedle for a second place 9:58.05 in the 4x800 relay.  Amity also took fourth in the 4x100 relay. Collins, Tara Ramierez, Eldracher, and DePalma logged a time of 53.42.

In other results, Greenberg added a fourth place 1:02.19 in the 400. Collins’ 51.33 was good for fifth place in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Eldracher added a second place 16-7 in the long jump. Kristen Post logged a third place 96-2 in the javelin and Kate Simon’s 36-4 was good for second place in the shot put.

“Considering the horrible weather, I thought we did really well. Competitively, we did about what I expected us to do. My girls have a lot of confidence and I think we proved that we are ready for the SCC Championship Meet on Tuesday,” Coach Jessica Belden said.
