Maxx Catapano Drafted by Mariners

Former Amity Football Player chosen in 46th round by Seattle.

Former Amity football player Maxx Catapano was claimed by the Seattle Mariners in the 46th round of Major League Baseball’s amateur draft earlier this week. After playing defensive back and punting for the Spartans during the 2003 season, Catapano transferred to Fairfield Warde, where he played both football and baseball. After graduating from Warde in 2007, he attended the University of Connecticut, Southern Connecticut State University, Bellevue Univeresity (Nebraska) and Lee University (Tennessee). Catapano was 9-5 with a 2.29 earned run average this spring for Lee, which placed third in the NAIA World Series in Lewiston Idaho. He also struck out 79 batters in 82 innings.
