When you pledge your eternal love and devotion to your spouse you vow that you will always put them first. Without a good marriage, it is difficult to have a solid foundation to raise a family. The problem is that there will be times when as unnatural as it may feel, you must put your spouse first.
This past weekend my husband, who travels extensively, asked me to join him to avoid being alone for two consecutive weeks. My natural inclination was to say no, that I had too much to do with the kids.

“Mom” my daughter said. “You will be missing our championship game. Who will we barbecue with for the holiday? I thought this is Dad’s job not yours?”
She was right. I would miss things but where she was wrong, was that it wasn’t my husband’s choice when he took the position, it was ours.
